The New Zealand Resuscitation Council, through its instructors, delivers CORE (Certificate of Resuscitation and Emergency Care). This is delivered at Levels 4 – 7 to meet the needs of a wide range of health care professionals. It is structured to allow candidates from multiple levels to attend the same course. The Level 5 - 7 courses are run over a full day.
NZRC CORE Level 5 is the current RNZCGP minimum standard in order to achieve Fellowship. GP's are encouraged to train to the level appropriate to their work station. This course meets the requirements for an assessed Level 5 course.
NZRC CORE Level 6 is designed for Paramedics, Dentists performing sedation, and Nurses working in areas including Intensive Care, Coronary Care and the Emergency Department.
NZRC CORE Level 7 is only available for medical doctors. The course content and practical assessment for Levels 5, 6 and 7 is the same, however the written exam is different for each level.
A Doctor may choose whether they wish to sit the Level 5 or Level 7 exam paper.
A Nurse may choose whether they wish to sit the Level 5 or Level 6 exam paper.
A minimum of 6 weeks is recommended for pre-reading and study of the course manual. The current manual is Advanced Resuscitation For Health Professionals – Level 7 (2012). This can be purchased or hired from Emcare at time of application. During this 6 week period, course participants are expected to have read the text thoroughly from cover to cover in order to develop adequate theoretical knowledge to enable them to successfully complete the written examination. Supplementary pre-reading will also be supplied by Emcare.
This course has been endorsed by the RNZCGP and meets the compulsory resuscitation skills RNZCGP MOPS criteria.
NZRC Level 6/7 courses are endorsed by the RNZCGP for 12 CME credits.
