CORE Levels 6 and 7 Course
The New Zealand Resuscitation Council, through its instructors, delivers CORE (Certificate of Resuscitation and Emergency Care). This is delivered at Levels 4 –7 to meet the needs of a wide range of health care professionals. It is structured to allow candidates from multiple levels to attend the same course. The course is run over a full day.
Level 6 is designed for paramedics and nurses working in areas including Intensive Care, Coronary Care and the Emergency Department. Level 7 is only available for medical doctors. The course content and practical assessment for Level 6 and 7 is the same however the written paper for Level 7 is different. A doctor may choose whether they wish to sit the Level 6 or 7 paper.
A minimum of 6 weeks is given for pre reading and study of the course manual. The current manual is Advanced Resuscitation For Health Professionals – Level 7(2007). It can be purchased from Emcare at time of application. During this 6 week period, course participants are expected to have read the text thoroughly from cover to cover in order to develop adequate theoretical knowledge to enable them to successfully complete the written examination.
This course has been endorsed by the RNZCGP and meets the compulsory resuscitation skills RNZCGP MOPS criteria.
