ECG Course
Introduction to ECG Recognition.
This 3 hour course is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of 3 lead ECG recognition. It covers:
- An overview of the cardiac conduction system
- A review of the parts of an ECG tracing
- A discussion of automaticity
- A systematic approach to interpreting an ECG and relating it to conduction within the myocardium
- The role of the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous system in controlling heart rate
- A brief discussion of 12-lead ECG’s and ST segment changes
- An opportunity in a group setting to work through up to 30 rhythm strips to gain confidence in recognising changes in ECG’s
As this is an introductory course only, it is not envisaged that at the end of the course the candidate will be able to make diagnostic clinical decisions. However, the candidate will be better placed to look for changes in an ECG strip that may be important.
