ACLS6
Effective from 1 June 2025
GP fellows and registrars will be required to complete a RNZCGP endorsed resuscitation course with the following criteria:
Minimum contact time: 6 hours
Assessment: Completion of an assessment is mandatory
This means CORE Skills and refreshers that are not assessed, and less than 6 hours contact time will no longer meet RNZCGP resuscitation criteria.
The ACLS6 course is now one of the courses accepted by the RNZCGP
ACLS6 consists of pre-reading and two online tests before the face to face training.

ACLS6 covers the following topics:
• Basic life support (including infant, child and adult resuscitation)
• Patient assessment
• Advanced airway management assessed to laryngeal mask airway (LMA) level
• Pharmacology in resuscitation
• The role of early defibrillation
• AED & manual defibrillation
• Scenario training including use of algorithms
• Recognition of shockable and non-shockable ECG rhythms
• Management of anaphylaxis
