Intravenous (IV) Insertion and Maintenance Courses
Are you a dentist or a health care professional performing intravenous (IV) insertion or cannulation as part of your role? Emcare has an intravenous training course to meet your needs! This IV course will outline the procedure for inserting peripheral intravenous cannula (PIVC) and consider the various issues that are associated with it. These issues include the legal and professional implications, patient assessment and preparation, recognition and management of complications and the setting up of intravenous administration of fluids for intravenous therapy. The material presented on PIVC is focused on the adult population and while it is recognised that there are specific implications of PIVC in paediatrics, these are beyond the scope of this course. Phlebotomy will not be taught on this course. Total time investment for this course is 7 hours, comprised of 4 hours self directed learning utilising a workbook (with an online test to be completed prior to attending the practical session) and 3 hours of hands-on simulation with an Emcare instructor. By the end of the course the learner should be able to:
